Samuel Nelson Childs Sr., lovingly known as Sam, passed away on January 3, 2026, after a year and half battle with brain cancer, leaving behind a legacy of faith, devotion, and steadfast love. Born on July 26, 1956, Sam lived a life centered on God, family, and service to others.
Sam graduated from B.C. Rain High School before continuing his education at Auburn University, where he earned his Pharmacy degree in 1979. A proud Auburn alumnus and lifelong Auburn sports enthusiast, his love for the university remained a joyful constant throughout his life.
Sam dedicated his professional career to caring for others as a pharmacist in Mobile, Alabama. He served the community faithfully for many years at Oak Ridge Pharmacy and later at Mobile Infirmary.
A man of strong faith, Sam was a longtime member of Regency Church of Christ in Mobile, Alabama. Following his retirement and move to Auburn, he became an active member of Auburn Church of Christ.
Sam was a devoted husband and father. He is survived by his beloved wife, Leslie Childs; his sons, Samuel Childs Jr. and Will (Niki) Childs; sister-in-law, Cynthia Childs; brother-in-law, Todd Brown and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Billy N. Childs; his mother, Athelene D. Childs; and his brother, Jon M. Childs.
Sam will be remembered as a wonderful husband and father whose life reflected his deep love for God, his family, his friends, and his Auburn Tigers. His steady presence, generous spirit, and faith left a lasting impression on all who knew him.
Visitation will be held at Mobile Memorial Gardens Funeral Home on January 9 at 11:00 a.m., followed by a memorial service at 12:00 p.m. Burial will follow in Mobile Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Allan Eldridge will officiate the services.
Pallbearers will be Ross Gallaher, Larry Johnson, Rick Brannon, Paul Kellum, Tony Kendall, and Todd Brown. Pete Miller will serve as an honorary pallbearer.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Mobile Christian School, 5900 Cottage Hill Road, Mobile, Alabama 36609, or the Auburn Christian Student Center, 439 South College Street, Auburn, Alabama 36830.
