Samuel Rollette "Sam" Clymer, 82, passed away on Wednesday, December 18, 2024 in Wheatland, Wyoming.
Sam was born to Arthur and Andrienne (Wilcox) Clymer in Boulder, Colorado on October 31, 1942. He attended local schools and participated in school athletics, specifically track/ field and football. He graduated from Boulder High School in 1962.
While growing up, Sam had a variety of after-school jobs. He secured employment with Public Service Company of Colorado, Boulder Division in 1962. Sam worked most of his 38 years with the company as a journeyman lineman. He enlisted in the United States Army during the Vietnam War and served as a staff sergeant with Company A of the 244th Engineering Battalion. He was also a farmer and rancher.
Sam had a son, Chad, and daughter, Kamiah, from a prior marriage. In 1989, he married Holly (Thayer) and gained two more daughters, Amber and Tara.
During his children's school years, Sam was very involved in their 4-H Club and county fair activities, teaching them how to raise farm animals as well as appreciating the outdoors. Sam loved hunting and fishing with his children, activities that continued into their adulthood and eventually included his grandchildren.
Sam resided primarily in Boulder County, Colorado. In 1986, he purchased a ranch in Tie Siding, Wyoming to ranch there; however, upon retirement Sam and Holly moved from Longmont, Colorado to a small ranch northwest of Wheatland.
Never deviating from his passions, Sam was a lifetime member of the NRA and a longtime member of the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation. He was an avid collector of firearms, antique fishing equipment, bear traps, insulators, and an eclectic variety of other items. He loved hunting, fishing, and hiking in and around the mountains, and sharing his extraordinary knowledge of wildlife and nature with family and friends. He also loved the serenity of his home outside of Wheatland, where he felt he was living his dream.
One of Sam's legacies is the planting of trees wherever he lived. He often said he'd bet he had planted at least 5000 trees! His artistic talents included creating antler lamps, decorated steer skulls and canes, and numerous wood and metal crafts. Sam also held a great respect for United States military personnel – he was staunchly "red, white, and blue."
Sam is survived by his wife, Holly; daughter, Kamiah Hamilton of Spring Creek, Nevada; stepdaughters, Tara Doyle of Greeley, Colorado and Amber Harrison (John) of Las Vegas, Nevada; brother, Terrell (Beverly) of Boulder; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews including Dan and Heather Thibault of Hollis, New Hampshire.
Sam is preceded in death by his parents; son, Chad; and brothers-in-law, Harry and Charlie Thayer.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, the Friends of the NRA charity, Tunnel to Towers, or to the American Lung Association.
Gorman Funeral Homes - Platte Chapel of Wheatland, Wyoming is in charge of the arrangements.
