Sam DeAnda “Sammy D.” passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loved ones on December 12, 2025. He was born on August 28, 1956, to David and Rosa DeAnda in Abernathy, Texas. Sam graduated from Lubbock Dunbar in 1976. He met his wife of 48 years, Sofia Fuentes, and they were married on June 3, 1977. They have one daughter named Alexis. Sam began his selling career at Mr. Budget/Hester office furniture. He eventually sold mobile homes and cotton gin equipment before finally settling as a car salesman. Sam worked for Gene Messer Toyota and Reagor Dykes before retiring in 2018. Sam never met a stranger and, in his words, he was the “best in the business”. He loved talking with his customers, and they would affectionately tell him he could sell ice to the Eskimos. His favorite pastime was playing Texas lotto or traveling with his wife and daughter to the nearest casino. He will be tremendously missed by all who knew him and had the pleasure of crossing paths.
He’s survived by his wife, Sofia, and daughter, Alexis, along with seven siblings: Dan DeAnda, David DeAnda (Mary Alice), Roy DeAnda (Josie), Irma DeAnda, Mary Lou DeAnda, Rosa DeAnda, and Stella Hernandez. Along with a host of nieces and nephews and extended family. He is preceded in death by his parents, David and Rosa DeAnda, father-in-law, Frank Fuentes, and two brothers-in-law, Frank Fuentes Jr. and Juan Fuentes.
The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to Bridge Hospice, Stacy Niechaj, and Ycelia Landrove, who took exceptional care of him during his last few months at home.
Services are pending until Monday, December 15, 2025.
