Rev. Samuel Gregory, son of the late Hattie Mae Gregory Brown and Harvey Swinton Sr., was born on November 22, 1953 in
Ridgeland, SC. He attended Ridgeland High School and graduated in 1974. At an early age, he joined Second Euhaw Baptist Church where he served on the junior choir. He was a Councilman, Community Leader, Pastor and most importantly, he was an awesome Father.
He started his working career right after high school when he landed his first job at SCDOT for one year. After which, he started his journey with the Jasper County School System and eventually retiring after many years of service. Rev. Gregory was the Vice Chairman of the Jasper County Council for several years and was also the Chairman of the County Council for two conservative terms. He received countless awards and was a member of many organizations in his lifetime such as: being granted an award on 01/01/2023 from the NAACP, an Outstanding Service Award from the Dedicated Black Men of Jasper County, an award from The Bee Dreamers Auxiliary, a member of the organizations C.O.P.S., a member of The Community All-Stars and so much more.
Although he was an outstanding pillar of the community, his work with the ministry also speaks louder than words. He was a Pastor most of his adult life and he served as Pastor of several churches: Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church, St. Paul Baptist Church, Mt. Sinai Baptist Church and at the time of his demise he was the pastor of St. John Missionary. Rev. Gregory preached many sermons and performed many weddings, baptisms, pastor anniversaries, choir anniversaries and was a choir director throughout his time as Pastor.
Even though he accomplished much through his adulthood the one thing he was mostly proud of was being a great father, a grandfather, and a friend to many. On March, 02, 2023, God saw fit and Rev. Gregory gladly accepted the call to come home and rest.
Rev. Gregory temporarily leaves behind his sons; Frederick (Vette) Smith, and Bradley Cummings, both of Hardeeville, SC, daughters; Makeba Gregory, and Cierra (Cedric) Gregory, both of
