Additionally, Samuel proudly served in the United States Army for 2 years, embodying bravery and patriotism.   He married June Dougherty in 1955 in Sioux City.  She preceded him in death on July 6, 1990.

Samuel dedicated an impressive 50 years of his life as a Foreman for Chris Hansen Construction before retiring in 1995. His commitment and hard work left a lasting impact on all who had the pleasure of working alongside him.

One of his proudest accomplishments was serving as the President of the Scandinavian Society, demonstrating his leadership skills and deep-rooted sense of heritage.

A man of diverse interests and passions, Samuel had a love for sports and the thrill of placing bets, socializing with friends over a cold beer, driving his cherished Cadillacs, birdwatching in nature's beauty, and enjoying holidays with loved ones while sharing meals that warmed both hearts and stomachs.

Samuel leaves behind a legacy that will be forever cherished by his surviving family and friends. He is survived by his daughter Kathy (Oliver) Fenceroy of Sioux City; grandchildren: Oliver Jr. (Kindra), Leo (Sotheavy), Kara, and Darnell; great-grandchildren: Carissa, Cyra, Caliana, Oliver III, Kolby, Kaden, Kamariah, Kyla, and Jace; great-great-grandchildren: Kensli and Xavier; as well as close extended family members: Rosemary (Myron) Sands and their children Valerie Sands with her son Blake Sands and Steve (Laney) Sands; Sister Virginia Levich; along with many nieces and nephews.

In quiet moments amidst nature or lively gatherings with friends and family—Sam brought joy wherever he went. May his spirit continue to inspire us all to embrace life with enthusiasm and warmth just as he did throughout his journey on this earth.
