"And he said unto me, my grace is sufficient for thee; for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most glady therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me." - 2 Corinthians 12:9
The book of the life of Samuel Edward Jacobs reached its closing on November 7, 2025. Having lived a full life, surrounded by his loving family in his home, he went peacefully to be with his Savior to serve in the heavenly Army of God.
Samuel was the eldest son of the late Aaron Edward and Luticia Mitchell Jacobs, born on March 11, 1945. He was affectionately called "Buck". As a young boy, he graduated from Waccamaw Indian High School in 1963. After graduation, having a drive to be successful and to better his family, he went to college but was called to military service to serve his country in the Vietnam War. He was a proud member of the 101st Airborne Division and would speak often about his seventy-two jumps as a paratrooper. Very rarely did he ever leave home without a hat on his head that reflected the pride of his service to his country. His natural leadership skills lead him to be a decorated Army Sergeant where he received many military accommodation metals but was proudest of his Combat Infantry Badge, his Army commendation Medal, his Bronze Star and his Purple Heart.
With his unwavering work ethic after his return from war, in 1970, he began to work as a chemical lab analyst at General Electric. He remained a loyal employee until his retirement in 2001, giving over thirty years of service. As a soldier of Jesus Christ who accepted Jesus as his savior at an early age, he honored his community well. He loved St. James Missionary Baptist Church, and was a Sunday School teacher, a trustee, and on many committees. He was dedicated to and an integral part of the establishment of the St. James Volunteer Fire Department and again, in this aspect, served as a firefighter until he was physically unable.
He leaves behind three wonderful daughters: Meki Jacobs Graham (Haynes), Natasha Jacobs Lowery (Joseph), and Valerie Jacobs Pedro (Fred). As a man of wisdom who learned from the experiences of life, his constant advice to his children was "do the right thing" and in his last days, when asked if he needed anything, his response was "more grace". The last chapters of his life brought restoration with his family and "Buck", with a humble spirit and a heart of thanksgiving, was lovingly cared for by his children, his former wife, Hilda Green Jacobs; his former sister in law, Otelia Blanks Graham; Adell Barsh and the late Travis Bush.
He was a devoted father, PaPa, brother, and friend. He leaves behind six grandchildren: Haynes Ayden Graham, Malia Jillian Graham, Milana Jocelyn Graham, Laiken Sage Lowery, Graison Javonis Pedro, and Chloe Nicole Pedro. He also leaves behind his siblings: Van Jacobs (Lela), Hattie Campbell (Henry), Joyce Webb, Theresa Blanks (Hubert), and O'Neil Jacobs and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, Aaron Edward and Luticia Mitchell Jacobs and his brother/best friend, Will Jacobs.
The book of Samuel Edward Jacobs may have ended, but ultimately, his unforgettable and indelible legacy was one of forgiveness, renewal and healing.
Celebration of life service with military and fireman's honors will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 12, 2025 at St. James Missionary Baptist Church in Lake Waccamaw.
Visitation will be from 1:00-1:50 p.m. prior to the service at the church.
