I just stumbled on this. Sorry to hear of his loss. He was a great influence on me at Ferrum back in '79/'80. He introduced me to birding. When I decided to apply to Univ. of Montana after 2 years at Ferrum, he shared stories of his experiences in Montana. Sympathies to his family, colleagues, students.❤❤❤

My wife Trudi and I were saddened to hear of Sam's passing. I considered Sam a mentor of mine many years ago when we began our teaching careers at Ferrum College in the 70's. He will be missed.

I met Sam 30+ years ago at our hunting club in Bath Co. VA. I so enjoyed listening to his stories when we would come back from a hunt, not about the deer we were hunting but about all of the other critters he had seen. He new so much about the woods and all that live in it. He will be missed. All of his family is in my thoughts and prayers....

Another Marine

A U.S. Navy Corpsman serving with a U.S. Marine unit in combat in Vietnam would earn these awards.

Another Marine

June 11, 2020

Whenever I become aware that another Marine has answered his last muster, I am reminded by words in our Marines' Hymn that tells us, the streets of Heaven are guarded by United States Marines. Well, the Marines believe that our Corpsmen, who care for us and go into battle with us, also follow us to the streets of Heaven. CORPSMAN UP! You still have Marines to care for and important work to do, Doc. Semper Fi

Joan, Sean, and Jason
I'm very sorrow for your loss. Sam was absolutely one of the wisest and genuinely kindest people I have ever known. He always gave sage advice, and I don't think I ever heard him utter a word that he would be ashamed to say in a public forum. The world needs more people like your husband and father. He will be greatly missed. Those of us lucky enough to have met him, been his neighbor, or conducted business with him has a much richer life because of him. And I mean richer in every sense of the word not just monetarily.
My condolences,
Brian

I first met Sam Litton when his oldest son Sean,
Decided to start his own company in Charleston. I was there when he named it the Peninsula Company. He was young and ambitious, but we knew he was a sure bet. It was a few weeks later that I met his Dad, they were cut from the same cloth. Sam walked in and said to myself and a few other of Sean's guppies , who had moved to this city , you boys have a great future ahead of you if you play your cards right, y'all are lucky, to have what you have. That being said I'll always remember those words he said, he had faith in his boy, rightfully so. His two boys will carry on the dignity , the loyalty and the truth he always spoke, u always listened when he was talking to you, and In my book that speaks volumes . RIP Sam you will be missed

I was so sad to see of Mr. Litton's passing. He taught me Biology my Freshman year at Ferrum College and even though I was a really poor student, he was always ready to help me whenever I needed it. I only had him for Biology for one year - but I will always remember his kindness, patience, and great sense of humor. Mrs. Litton probably does not remember me, but she was my advisor at Ferrum. My heart is with you and I know you both touched so many lives at Ferrum and beyond. Thinking of you all and sharing in your sadness.
