Samuel "Sam" H. McMurray, Jr., 78, of McPherson and formerly of Lindsborg, passed away on Thursday, September 27, 2007, at Memorial Hospital, McPherson. Sam was born on January 7, 1929, in McPherson, KS, the son of Samuel H. Sr. and Mae (Seifreid) McMurray. He graduated from McPherson High School in 1947. In his younger years he farmed for the Paul Nelson family near McPherson and the Paul Danielson family near Freemont. He then became a heavy equipment operator for Malm Construction, Lindsborg. After retirement, he delivered cars for several auto dealerships in McPherson. On November 22, 1948, Sam was united in marriage to Virginia C. Babcock at Lindsborg, KS. She passed away on November 11, 1978. On July 7, 1979, he was united in marriage to Gloria J. (Tillman) Lowe at Lindsborg, KS. Sam was a member of the New Gottland Covenant Church. The funeral service will be held at 10:30 AM, Tuesday, October 2, 2007, at the New Gottland Covenant Church with the Rev. Ken Busse officiating. Burial will be at the Elmwood Cemetery, Lindsborg. Visitation is scheduled for Monday from 3:00 to 8:00 PM at Stockham Family Funeral Home with the family present from 6:00 to 8:00 PM. His survivors include: his wife, Gloria McMurray of the home; daughter, Vickie Dryden and husband, Russ, of Wichita, and their children, Amber Cooper and husband, David, and Garrett Dryden; son, Brad McMurray and wife, Jane, of Plant City, FL; step-sons, Stan Lowe of Memphis, TN and his three daughters, Traci Arnold with children, Devin, Austin, and Miranda; Brandi Denton and husband, Rodney, and their children, Avery and McKenzie; and Cari South and her children, Brandon, Katelyn, and Michael Dee; step-son, Steve Lowe of McPherson; step-daughter, Sandy Ratzlaff and husband, Steve, of McPherson and six children, Jason Bruce and wife, Ann, and daughter, Lilly, Corey Bruce and wife, Jen, and their son, Cooper, Myron Bruce, Lenny Bruce, Stephen Ratzlaff and Samuel Ratzlaff; step-daughter, Sheri Abell and husband, Gary, of McPherson and their two children, Karley Clark and husband, Andrew, and their son, Joey; and Clayton Abell. Memorial donations may be given to the New Gottland Covenant Church in care of Stockham Family Funeral Home.
