Samuel Nesby was born on March 20, 1953, to James and Ezerer Nesby in Birmingham, Alabama. Known affectionately as Sam, he spent his formative years in Queens, New York. Sam was a gregarious and witty individual with a profound love for the church. He took great pleasure in dressing for church services and enjoyed participating in outings with friends from the group home. His musical preferences were exceptional, with a particular fondness for Motown artists like Smokey Robinson and the Four Tops, as well as other vibrant music genres. Dancing was a source of great happiness for him, especially during social gatherings with his friends. Additionally, Sam was a diligent young man who looked forward to his responsibilities at the Cleveland Workshop. Notably, he had a tendency to check the time frequently, even in the absence of a watch. He held Charles Road Group Home in high regard, as he preferred not to spend weekends with his family.
Samuel Nesby passed away on Thursday, January 16, 2025. He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Ezerer Nesby; his sister, Annette Farmer; and two brothers-in-law, Richard Farmer and Jessie Lloyd.
He is survived by five siblings: James Nesby (Elaine) of Birmingham, Alabama, John Nesby of Baltimore, Maryland, Margaret Ledbetter (Fred) of Polkton, North Carolina, Alice Lloyd of New Milford, Pennsylvania, and Wallace Nesby of Mint Hill, North Carolina and a sister in-law, Ann Nesby of Queens, New York; a friend of the family, Leslie Vassar; and numerous other relatives and friends.

My heart is so confused right now. I know that Mr. Sam is in a better place but the selfish side of me wishes that he was still here. Mr. Sam was such a joy to be with. He had the best personality and sense of humor. I would say Mr. Sam you looking handsome today. I´ll bet all the women were giving you the eye and he would give me that big smile. RIP Mr. Sam
