Samuel H. Overfield, age 89 of Urbana, Ohio passed away Wednesday, May 21, 2025 at the Dayton VA Medical Center. He was born June 27, 1935 at home in Champaign County, the son of the late Marion W. and Leola M. (Sharp) Overfield. Samuel is survived by his loving children, Michelle (Terry) Hanners and Michael (Diane Buckler) Overfield, granddaughter, Carrissa (Adam) Harford, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Marion Overfield, mother, Leola Overfield-Crawford, step-father, Bert Crawford, loving wife of 50 years, Berneda (Holbrook) Overfield, sisters, Marilyn Smith-Strouse and Sue Adkins, and brothers-in-law, Joe Smith, Milford Strouse, and Joe Adkins.
Samuel selflessly served our nation in the United States Navy, enlisting when he was just 17 years old. Following his time in the service, he worked as a warehouseman. He worked for Daycoa Lighting until his retirement in 2000. On April 21, 1957, he married the love of his life Berneda, and spent 50 beautiful years with her until her passing in 2007. Samuel was a longtime fan of NASCAR racing and loved spending time with his family.
Family and friends will be received on Wednesday, May 28, 2025 from 6:00-8:00 PM at the Walter and Lewis Funeral Home, Urbana. The funeral service will be held on Thursday, May 29, 2025 at 10:00 AM, also at the funeral home. Burial to follow at Woodstock Cemetery.
