Samuel Pressley Obituary

Published by Terry Funeral Home, Inc. - Philadelphia on Sep. 18, 2017.
Samuel Lee Pressley, Jr., son of the late Jenice Watson-Tingle and Samuel Pressley, Sr. was born on October 24, 1948 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He entered eternal peace with the Lord on Monday, September 18, 2017, at the Cliveden Nursing Home in Philadelphia, PA. He was the eldest of two children. As a child, Sam accepted Christ into his life. He once was a member of the Metropolitan Baptist Church at 35th & Baring Street. Sam attended Philadelphia public schools and graduated from Benjamin Franklin High School in 1966. As a young man, Sam knew the value of hard work. He worked at Septa for many years as a bus driver. Sam loved cars and loved the excitement of driving them. One of his proudest moments was being made a Mason and a member of the Corinthians Lodge 114 P.H.A in 1985. Sam was united in holy matrimony to Clara Pressley. After his divorce, he later met Lenard Jean Everett of Wilmington, DE and from that relationship Candis Jae Pressley was born in 1978. In 2003 he married Jane Holland-Pressley who pre-deceased him in 2005. Sam made numerous friends wherever he went. He enjoyed travelling, dancing and enjoyed life to the fullest. His was a big sports fan, he loved the "Philadelphia Eagles." His personality, his participatory spirit, his compassion for others and his fervent zeal to extend a helping hand will be sorely missed by all who knew him. He was a true friend, a concerned neighbor and his boundless limit of human compassion illuminated through his countless deeds of goodwill. He was devoted to his family and he imparted qualities of love, humility, faith, understanding, knowledge and wisdom to all who encountered him. Sam leaves to cherish his memory: his loving daughter, Candis Jae Pressley-Blackwood; his grandson, Colin Alexander-Beau Blackwood; his aunt, Byronette E. Watson; his life long friend, Donald Lawson (Lorraine); his brother, Kenneth W. Pressley; his niece, Ramona Pressley-McLeod; and his nephew, Kenneth Pressley, Jr.; and a host of family and friends.
