I'm reminded of our time on the cross country team, where Sam was always a voice of encouragement. To Sam, it wasn't important that he was extremely talented, or that he made friends with everyone (he was, and he did). One of his greatest gifts to us was simply that by being present, Sam lifted others up. Thank you, Sam, for the time we had together.

I've had few connections in life like the one I shared with Sam for the 10+ years I knew him. Our humor was almost telepathic - to this day I've yet to meet someone that makes me laugh the way he could. But Sam was so much more than his jokes. He was a sensitive soul. Sam wanted the world for everyone and he made their joys and failures his own. He never missed a birthday or a chance to say he loves you. Everything about him was unconditional and he was as loyal as they come. Everyone wanted him around. His presence was palpable.
Sam never really talked about it, but he was such a talented artist. My photos are filled with his doodles, and he designed an amazing coloring book for his brother. He would put hours into funny drawings or Snapchat sketches just for a quick laugh in the group chat. That's probably what I'll remember most about Sam. His unassailable excitement and curiosity for the world and the way he played with the mundane. There are countless other lessons I'm blessed enough to have learned from him, to name them all would be impossible. I'm so fortunate to have known Sam. We were inseparable for so long, and I cherish those moments more than anything in the world. May the memories and the light he brought into this world always live on. I love you so much Sam <3
