Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee Isaiah 26:3
Today we remember, honor and celebrate one of God's most faithful, devoted, loving husband, father, brother, grandfather, uncle, cousin and friend, Samuel Wilson, affectionately known as Sammy, Daddy, Papa, and "Amigo". Words cannot fully express such a life so well lived, but his legacy will live on.
On November 3, 1937, Samuel Wilson was born to the late Arthur R., Sr and Christine Wilson. On Wednesday, April 19, 2023, at Johnston Willis Hospital, God in his infinite wisdom called his faithful servant to rest.
Sammy received his education in Amelia County and graduated from Russel Grove High School in 1956. After graduating from High School, he enlisted in the Army Reserved for six years. On July 9, 1960, Samuel joined in holy matrimony to the love of his life, Gladys Evelyn Coleman. To this union four children were born.
In his early employment years, he worked at McEwen Lumber company where he drove trucks in Richmond, Virginia. He later worked at Richfood, Incorporation as a receiving clerk where he retired in 2001.
At an early age Sammy gave his life to Christ. He was a faithful member of Manassa Hill Baptist Church where he served for many years as Chairman of the Deacon and Trustee board, Superintendent of the Sunday School, faithful member of the Male Chorus, Senior Choir and Men's Ministry. Sammy's membership was later moved to Restoration Baptist Church of Amelia, Virginia, where he served in the same capacity.
Samuel was preceded in death by his beloved son Steve Linwood Wilson, four sisters, and four brothers.
Sammy leaves to cherish his love and memories to his loving wife of sixty-two years, Gladys "Bunny", three children, Samuel "O"(Joanne), Cynthia "Took" (Keven), and Wilma "Bay", Brother Robert Wilson "Skip" (Christine), ten grandchildren, Tomeka Jones, Marnita Wilson, Ashley Charles-Bland (devoted), Ramesha Miles, Latoya Winfield, Stephen Wilson, Taneisha Charles (devoted), Jamaal Wilson, Steve Charles (devoted), and LyNayjua Charles (devoted), nineteen great grandchildren, an aunt, Louise T. Worsham, eight sister-in-laws, two brother-In-laws.
Samuel was loved by so many to whom he was also like a father and grandfather.

Two godsons – Deacon Ansenio White and Deacon Don Hatcher

Sammy enjoyed singing, gardening, doing word search puzzles, spending time with family, watching wrestling and football. Sammy was a loyal fan of Washington Commanders. One of his many attributes was making sure he was on time for everything. On Monday's, he faithfully called local widows and widowers. Samuel shared a special bond with his great grandson Emir, whom he affectionately referred to as "Amigo". During the unfortunate decline of his health, little Amigo would often assist in ensuring that big Amigo was being taken care of.
