Samuel C. Wright III, 57, of Claverack, passed away on March 5, 2025 at Canton Potsdam Hospital, after being hospitalized while on an ice fishing trip with friends. Samuel was born on February 22, 1968 in Hudson to the late Samuel C. Wright II, and Frederica (Wiencke) Wright. He graduated from Taconic Hills Central School in 1986 and then earned his degree in civil engineering from Hudson Valley Community College. He was born to a farmer and his wife, and was raised milking cows and goats, collecting eggs, bailing hay, etc.
Sam was a contractor and entrepreneur with his own contracting business. His perfection and attention to detail set him apart as a skilled carpenter. He was a self taught farmer, and grower of mushrooms.
Sam had a love for ice fishing with friends, of which he had plenty. He was a true people person and would always strike up a conversation even with complete strangers. On Sundays he enjoyed watching football. His focus was on the plays and strategies versus who wins or loses. He was a lover of knowledge who believed that one should never stop learning. He passed his knowledge on to his children and family.
Samuel is survived by his loving mother, Frederica Wright and his brothers, Nate and his wife Rachel and Christopher and his wife Dana. His children, Samuel C. Wright IV, Victoria Wright and Maddox Dallas - Wright. His four grandchildren, whom he adored spending time with, Annabelle, Noah, Sophie & Chloe, and his companion Shari Franks. In addition to nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.
He was predeceased by his father, and his brother Leroy Wright.
A celebration of Sam’s life will be held on May 17, 2025 at Frederica’s home at time to be determined and will be announced. Donations in his memory may be made to the Philmont Food Pantry or a local food pantry of one’s choice. Sam believed that these were vital in our local community.
