I had the blessing and privilege of knowing Sandra personally through our membership and fellowship at Bull Street Baptist Church. Before meeting her, our professional paths crossed as Sandra´s reputation preceded her as a gifted and caring high school English teacher who was awarded by being recognized as Teacher of the Year.
Sandra´s energy, grit, and spunk were both an inspiration and an example to me and others. Her love for the Lord inspired her to go on mission trips to Haiti with her sister and to Israel with our church on which I was able to go with her. Sandra´s many years of faithful dedication to helping children as a CASA volunteer were loving and sacrificial. She left her mark of kindness and advocacy wherever she went. I´m thankful for the far-reaching impact she made and the one she left on me. It´s a joy to think of her now in the presence and joy of the Lord with her perfect healthy and whole body, most likely dancing and praising the Lord with both arms raised high.

Sandra Bath and I first met in 1997 when we both joined the Coastal Empire Polio survivors Association which had just been organized by three polio survivors. I had never met anyone with polio in the arms like me. Sandra's lungs were also damaged, requiring an iron lung to help her breathing for a time. All members of CEPSA were asked to share their polio stories with the group; these stories fill a volume of archival material in our history. Over the past twenty-eight years, Sandra Bath has given freely of her leardership skills, serving as president in 2000, 2001, and 2008. She published our newsletters, prepared exhibition posters, worked on projects to do curb cuts for accessiblity, and participated in conferences through Post-Polio Health International. She and I found family with this group of polio friends. We could be open and real for each other, assured of finding understanding and acceptance on a profound level.
