Sandra Bath Obituary

Sandra Elizabeth Bath, 78, of Savannah, passed away quietly on Thursday, November 27, 2025. Born in 1947 at Fort Benning Georgia, Sandra lived a life marked by courage, faith, and strength. She was the eldest daughter of the late Kelly C. and Pearl Bath. After surviving polio at age five, Sandra faced life's challenges with remarkable resilience and courage proving that having a disability does not impact the God given abilities we are all given.

Sandra grew up in a military family and embraced travel and novel experiences. A graduate of LaGrange College, she taught high school English and drama for 30 years, sharing her love of learning with generations of students. After retiring, she became a Court Appointed Special Advocate for foster care, mentored at L.I.F.E., Inc to help special needs students transition from school, delivered Meals on Wheels, and participated in many other community projects.

Sandra was a long-time member of Bull Street Baptist Church, taught Sunday School and enjoyed mission trips to Haiti and Israel. Sandra devoted her life to challenging the limits of her disability, pursuing her goals with independence and grace.

Sandra is preceded in death by her parents and her sister Cheryl. She is survived by her sister, Diane (Michael); her nieces, Elizabeth (Daniel) and Denise (John); her nephews, Michael (Stacy) and Stephen; her great-nephews, Carter, Mason, and Ellis; and her dearest friend, Dorinda.

Sandra's memorial service will be at Fox and Weeks Hodgson Chapel at 6 pm on Friday December 5, 2025. In lieu of flowers the family requests remembrances be made to Free Wheelchair Mission (https://www.freewheelchairmission.org). Even in death, Sandra is at work fighting for people with

I had the blessing and privilege of knowing Sandra personally through our membership and fellowship at Bull Street Baptist Church. Before meeting her, our professional paths crossed as Sandra´s reputation preceded her as a gifted and caring high school English teacher who was awarded by being recognized as Teacher of the Year.
Sandra´s energy, grit, and spunk were both an inspiration and an example to me and others. Her love for the Lord inspired her to go on mission trips to Haiti with her sister and to Israel with our church on which I was able to go with her. Sandra´s many years of faithful dedication to helping children as a CASA volunteer were loving and sacrificial. She left her mark of kindness and advocacy wherever she went. I´m thankful for the far-reaching impact she made and the one she left on me. It´s a joy to think of her now in the presence and joy of the Lord with her perfect healthy and whole body, most likely dancing and praising the Lord with both arms raised high.

Sandra Bath and I first met in 1997 when we both joined the Coastal Empire Polio survivors Association which had just been organized by three polio survivors. I had never met anyone with polio in the arms like me. Sandra's lungs were also damaged, requiring an iron lung to help her breathing for a time. All members of CEPSA were asked to share their polio stories with the group; these stories fill a volume of archival material in our history. Over the past twenty-eight years, Sandra Bath has given freely of her leardership skills, serving as president in 2000, 2001, and 2008. She published our newsletters, prepared exhibition posters, worked on projects to do curb cuts for accessiblity, and participated in conferences through Post-Polio Health International. She and I found family with this group of polio friends. We could be open and real for each other, assured of finding understanding and acceptance on a profound level.
