Sandra Crain Obituary

“Jesus said to her, ‘I am the resurrection and the life. Those who believe in me, even though they die, will live, and everyone who lives and believes in me will never die.’ “ - John 11:25-26 “ For to me, living means for Christ, and dying is even better. But if I live, I can do more fruitful work for Christ. So I really don’t know which is better. I’m torn between two desires: I long to go and be with Christ, which would be far better for me. “

- Philippians 1:21-23

Sandra Kay Crain, age 68, of Johnson City, Tennessee, went to be with the Lord unexpectedly on Sunday, November 30, 2025.

Sandra was born into the home of Albert Cable and Frances Lee Cable Richardson, of Johnson City.

Sandra was a lifelong resident of Johnson City. She graduated from Daniel Boone High School and earned a bachelor’s degree from East Tennessee State University.

She was employed with Kennametal for several years before beginning a long and meaningful career in Human Resources with Mountain States Health Alliance. She later completed her career with Ensemble.

She was a woman of deep Christian faith and a longtime member of Upper Room Family Worship Center, where she faithfully attended each week. She loved her church family dearly and lived her life with God at the center of everything she did.

She was blessed with a beautiful family, including her husband of 49 years along with a son and daughter whom she loved endlessly. She was ‘Grammie’ to those she adored most—her three precious grandbabies. Family time was her greatest joy, and she embraced every moment she could spend with them. Holidays held a special place in her heart, especially Christmas, when the house felt full of warmth, laughter, beautiful decorations and her famous Cherry Cream Cheese Pie. She found true joy in gifting, always seeking to bring happiness to others and making them feel loved.

She had a gift for making everyone feel at home. It wasn’t only her own children who were shaped by her loving nature—she mothered their friends as well; they lovingly referred to her as “Momma Crain”. She always offered guidance and a place to be heard, always without judgement, bringing humor and lightness along the way. She loved animals, especially the many dogs and cats she cared for throughout her life.

Along with her parents, Sandra is preceded in death by: her stepfather, Paul Richardson; and loving sister, Debbie Cable Davis.

Those remaining to cherish her memory include: loving husband, Gary Crain; son, Phoenyx Crain (David Smith); daughter, Danielle (Josh) Shuler; grandchildren, Bodie, Banks, and Bexley Shuler; brother, Mark Cable; sister, Christy Cable; step-sister, Pam Crain; and several loving nieces and nephews.

A visitation for family and friends will be held on Tuesday, December 9, 2025, from 11:30 am until 1:30pm at Morris-Baker Funeral Home.

The funeral service for Sandra will begin immediately following the visitation. Pastor Steve Wilson will officiate the service.

A committal service is scheduled for 3:00 pm at Washington County Memory Gardens in the mausoleum on Tuesday, December 9, 2025.
