Sandra Nelson Garza

Sandra Nelson Garza, age 62, of Elizabeth City, NC, died at her residence on Friday, January 23, 2026. She was born in Uxbridge, MA on May 20, 1963, to the late William V. Nelson and Janice E. Deboer Nelson, and she was the wife of Michael Dean Garza. Sandra honorably served her country in the U.S. Navy from 1980 to 1986. After her military service, she worked as a Residence Care Coordinator for several assisted living facilities for 30 years.

In addition to her husband of 40 years, she is survived by a son, Ryan Mathew Garza; a brother, Jeffrey W. Nelson; and four grandchildren, Addyson, Evelyn, Amelia, and Michael Garza. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Chelsea Lynn Garza, and her sister, Laurie A. Nelson Maron.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.
