Hampstead – Sandra Logan, 69, passed away December 25, 2023, at her home following a lengthy period of failing health.
Born December 2, 1954 in Marblehead, MA, she was the daughter of the late Stanley and Barbara (Carlton) Waitt.
Sandra was first and foremost a wife and mother, but she rapidly developed a well-deserved, wide ranging reputation as an ethical breeder and handler of English Springer Spaniels. Known for breeding not just for appearance, but also for sweet temperaments. She was well respected by the AKC as an ethical breeder and handler, and was cited in several nationwide publications for the high quality of her puppies. She sprinkled in several litters of miniature dachshunds along the way for good measure. Her primary concern was always matching her puppies with good owners and good homes, so profit was never her primary concern. Her caring nature stretched far beyond the dog world, and she had hundreds of people who called her "friend".
Diagnosed with lung cancer in the fall of 1995, her entire right lung was removed and she underwent an extended painful recovery, with her mother and sister providing care for her in Savannah. Almost exactly one year later, Sandy suffered a seizure and was transferred to Brigham and Womens hospital in Boston, where a tumor was removed from her brain. Afraid to remove any more potentially cancerous cells, massive doses of radiation were administered in an attempt to stop any further spread. She fought for over 25 years, never complaining, until the cumulative effects of the radiation finally took her down, slowly destroying her equilibrium, ability to clearly communicate her thoughts, and function normally. Through it all, she never complained and always attempted to live a "normal life," continuing to show her dogs and care for her family. It was during this period she got heavily involved with other cancer survivors, and took part in many candlelit cancer walkathons in Savannah and throughout New England. The song "Dance" become one of her favorites. She continued to breed her dogs and show them, until finally throwing in the towel after fifteen years of battling.
To her family, Sandra Logan was a compassionate and supportive wife, loving mother, and friend who would console loved ones when they were down and cheer them on to succeed.
Looking back, her friends and family remember a strong and dynamic woman, capable of fostering relationships with everyone. Sandra was a wonderful person who had been through so much, but always defied the odds and kept pushing forward
Members of her family include her husband Michael Logan of Hampstead, NH; her three children Sean O'Dell of Andover, ME; Ian Logan and wife Amanda of Manchester, NH; and Alexander Logan and wife Alison of East Hampstead, NH; seven grandchildren, her three siblings Carlton Waitt and wife Gail of Ossipee, NH; Robert Waitt and wife Katy of Sebec, ME; and Robin Breda and husband David of Kingston, NH; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Thank you, Sandra, for everything allowing us into your life. You will never be forgotten.
Family and friends may visit Friday January 12, 2024, from 4 PM – 7 PM at Brookside Chapel and Funeral Home, 116 Main St. Plaistow, NH.
