Sandra Mako

A good story or joke was never far from Sandy. There were times when sharing she'd mess it up, but you and Sandy were still guaranteed a great laugh! Her most memorable qualities were her beautiful smile and infectious laugh; a wonderful sound that will live forever in the hearts of all who loved her. Sandra Christensen Mako was born on July 11, 1946, to Jim and Snooks Christensen in Portland Oregon. Sandy graduated from Rose City Park Grade School in 1960 and Madison High School in 1964. Sandy spent most of her work life in banking, eventually retiring from US Bank in July of 2012. Sandy enjoyed traveling. She spent many happy vacations cruising or at theme parks with her sons, Cory, Bret and especially Ryan, who predeceased her in 2004. Sandy and Ryan had a special bond throughout his life. Enjoying many of the same passions. Another big part of Sandy's life was her two younger sons, Cory Deshirlia, of Portland, and Bret Deshirlia of Leadville, Co. Bret returned to Portland to help in the care of Sandy and both spent many hours during her last days, giving her peace. Sandy met Mike Mako at a Baby Boomers gathering and that began a ten year relationship that brought much joy and love into Sandy's life. Whether spending time in Arizona or just being home Sandy and Mike shared a loving relationship. No history of Sandy would be complete without mentioning her friends. Once you became her friend, it was forever. From her Pinochle group of thirty two years, to Exercise Buddies, Weight Watchers friends, high school friends, and dozens more. Sandy is survived by her husband Mike Mako, sons Cory and Bret and siblings Val Nagel (Dick), Ralph Christensen (Ellen), Claudia Haas (Kerry) and lifelong friend Dusty Parker (Bob), A Celebration of Life will be held, Sunday December 1, 2013, from 1-4 pm at Windows Skyroom, 1021 NE Grand Ave, Portland.
