Sandra Kay Marks

Sandra Kay Marks, 76, passed away peacefully on April 3, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend who left an indelible mark on everyone she met.
Sandra Kay Marks was born on February 19, 1949, to Walter Thompson Jr. and Marion Smith. Though she entered the world as a premature baby, she carried a strength that stayed with her throughout her life. Raised in Michigan, she grew up alongside her siblings-Richard Smith (Pam), the late Patricia Welsh, and Walter "Tommy" Thompson. As the second oldest, she naturally took on the role of a guiding presence within her family.
Sandra was the beloved wife of Earl Marks. The two were introduced by her brother, and from the moment Earl saw her, he thought she was the most beautiful girl he had ever met. Their love story began in their high school years, and one of the most memorable moments of that time was when he had the honor of taking her to prom. Their bond grew stronger over the years and the two were married on June 19, 1970. The devotion they had for each other blossomed into a marriage of nearly 55 years. Through all of life's ups and downs, they faced every challenge together, always supporting one another. They found joy in simply being together-whether it was tackling life's challenges, sharing quiet moments, or caring for one another.
Family was the cornerstone of Sandra's life. Together Sandra and Earl built a beautiful life, raising their two children, Denie (Holly) Marks and James Marks, and creating a home filled with a lifetime love. Sandra was the proud grandmother of Mikki Roll (Carl), Jacob Vanooyen (Victoria), Taia Broadbent, and Erin Wallace (Logan). Her joy only grew with the arrival of her great-grandchildren: Nash Roll, Scarlett Roll, Nixon Roll, Delilah Marks, and Amelia Broadbent. To them, she was a source of unconditional love, warmth, and the occasional playful feistiness that made her so unforgettable.
She was a dear aunt to many nieces and nephews, and her heart extended beyond blood ties. The Mosqueda family, who lived next door for a lifetime, became as close as kin, especially Socorro Yurko who was like a daughter to her.
Sandra found joy in the simple, beautiful moments of life. She loved sitting on the porch, where neighbors would inevitably gather, drawn by her lively spirit and engaging conversation. She cherished long phone calls with her mother and sisters, ensuring that no distance could weaken their bond.
A lover of nature, Sandra adored flowers-especially roses-and nurtured indoor plants with great care. She had an adventurous spirit and a deep appreciation for the outdoors, spending countless days fishing, boating, and camping. Her camping trips evolved over the years, from tents to truck campers to motorhomes, always seeking the next great adventure. She and Earl treasured their time at their northern Michigan property, where they could relax by the lake and bask in the beauty of nature.
Sandra also had a competitive streak, enjoying bowling and other pastimes that brought her together with friends and family. But above all, she loved nothing more than being surrounded by the people she held dear.
Sandra's vibrant personality, boundless love, and unwavering dedication to her family and friends will be deeply missed. While her physical presence may be gone, her spirit will live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know her.
A Memorial Visitation in honor of Sandra will be held on Saturday, April 12, 2025 11:30 a.m. until time of service at Solosy Funeral Home.
Memorial Service will begin at 2:30 p.m.
