Sandra Lee Oliver, 70, of
Knoxville, Tennessee, passed away peacefully on Friday, November 28, 2025, surrounded by family.
Born on January 16, 1955, in Gerard, Pennsylvania, to Clifford and Joanne Fleming, Sandy grew up on her grandmother's farm in Albion, Pennsylvania, where she enjoyed riding her horse, Dolly. She was also involved in raising and racing other horses. Her father served in the Army as a combat medic in the Korean War and remained active in veteran organizations throughout his life, notably as a Commander of Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Sandy later attended Trinity Bible College near Clearwater, Florida, where she met Michael Oliver and began their life together. They lived in Atlanta, Georgia; Dayton, Tennessee;
Knoxville, Tennessee; and Conneaut, Ohio, before returning to Knoxville in 1984 and making it their home. Together, they had two sons, Daniel and David, and helped raise their niece, Kristy.
Throughout her life, Sandy was known for her sincere kindness and generosity. She worked as a home healthcare nurse in Conneaut, often assisting people in their final days. In Knoxville, she worked at her father-in-law's tuxedo rental business, Frederick's Formal Wear, where she was much loved and built a network of wholesale accounts across East Tennessee and beyond, creating many lasting friendships as well as business partnerships. In 1996, she began a new chapter as a dispatcher with Computer Systems Plus. She quickly gained a reputation as the "Mom" of the office, throwing a party for everyone's birthday. Her compassion extended well beyond the workplace. She was always ready to help anyone in need, offering a ride to a doctor's appointment, a bag of groceries, or words of encouragement and companionship. She never asked for nor expected any recognition for these selfless acts.
In her free time, Sandy enjoyed cooking, gardening, and birdwatching. She loved every holiday and was known for her legendary rum cake and extensive collection of festive sweaters.
Sandy was preceded in death by her parents, Clifford and Joanne Fleming; her husband, Michael Oliver; her son, Daniel Oliver; and her grandson, Jamison Gluyas.
She is survived by her son, David Oliver, and his wife, Susan; her daughter-in-law, Danielle Ross; her grandchildren, Elijah, John, Emma, Lyla, Sawyer, and Ryan; and her nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, December 7, 2025, on the 8th floor of the Sunsphere in Knoxville, beginning at 11:00 AM. All who knew Sandy are welcome to attend. A Graveside Service will follow at Greenwood Cemetery at 1:00 PM.
