Sandra “Sandy” Pillinger passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by the life she built and cared for so deeply. She was a mother, a compassionate animal lover, and someone who found joy in the simple beauty of home and nature.
Sandra is survived by her daughter, Cassie Johnson (previously Philp), and her son-in-law, Noah Johnson. She is also survived by her half-brothers, John Pillinger and Brad Pillinger, and her dear friend, Kim Reilly, who cared for her and became her closest friend in her final years. She was preceded in death by her father, Norman Pillinger, and her mother, Mary Lou Pillinger.
Sandra had a strong and determined spirit. She earned her GED and went on to graduate from Dorsey Business School in 1993, where she studied to become a travel and tourism agent. Throughout her life, she took pride in her independence and the home she created.
In her later years, Sandra found peace and fulfillment in working on her house, gardening, and decorating. She had a special gift for making a space feel warm and welcoming. Above all, she had a deep love for animals—especially cats. She devoted much of her time to rescuing and rehabilitating them, giving many animals a second chance at a safe and loving life. Her beloved cats Smokey and Little Girl remained by her side, along with the cherished memory of those she cared for in the past, including Shadow, Toby, and Sammy.
Sandra will be remembered for her quiet strength, her caring heart, and the love she gave so freely—to her family, her home, and every animal she took in.
Her presence will be deeply missed and forever remembered by those who knew and loved her.
