Obituary published on Legacy.com by Boies-Ortega Funeral Home on Nov. 18, 2025.
Sandra Pino was born in Colorado Springs, Colorado on December 31, 1939, to Geraldine and Raymond Johnston and went home to be with her Savior and the love of her life Jake Pino, surrounded by family, at her daughter's home in Pueblo, Colorado on April 26, 2025.
Sandy had five siblings: Jack, Beverly, Rosie, Raymond and Charles (Tom) who all had passed before her as well as a step son Jacob Pino (Boogie) who is survived by his wife Kathy Pino, two children and three grandchildren.
Sandy worked hard her whole life, to include many years as a server at Patti's in Pueblo. She waited on many people and often would tell interesting stories about some of the famous and "infamous" customers she served! One of the most interesting ones was Jake Pino from Walsenburg who became the love her life and the one she was married to for 48 years until his passing in March of 2020.
Sandy was employed with Safeway for 28 years in Walsenburg and was known as always having a smile and willing to help all. She was a proud member of the Rocky Mountain UFCW Union and served as a union steward.
Sandy was always willing to help those around her and her family. Family was everything to her and she often took care of relatives and close friends who needed help. She did so with a smile and her special laugh! To the very end of her life, she would ask those who came to see her, "Are you OK?" because her nature has always been to help. She loved watching her grandchildren and great grandchildren and was so proud of them.
She loved flowers, her cats and would never turn down an offer to go gambling at Cripple Creek with her friends and was incredibly lucky! Sandy was known to come home with a big bucket of pennies or nickels as she loved the slots!! Sandy was a very good cook and loved to cook for the family, if you stopped by her house she would ask "Are you hungry?" as she sat a plate of food in front of you!
Sandy is survived by her children; Steve (Helen) Pino Walsenburg, Mark (Shelly) Jackson Walsenburg, Jesse Jackson Walsenburg, and Sue (Andy) Duran Pueblo. Her legacy includes her four children, eleven grandchildren, twenty-nine great grandchildren and other relatives she always loved and raised as her own. Sandy is also survived by her special friends and neighbors.
Services for Sandy will be held at St. Mary's Catholic Church in
Walsenburg, Colorado on Friday May 9, 2025. Viewing will be from 9:30 to 10:00Am, Rosary 10:00 to 10:30, Mass at 10:30 to be followed with a graveside service at North St. Mary Cemetery and a luncheon to follow at Delaney Hall at St. Mary's. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Boise Ortega Funeral home, Walsenburg.
May you rest in peace and love, and we can still hear you saying, "Are you OK?" We were truly blessed to call you our own.
