Sandra Putnam Obituary
Obituary published on Legacy.com by Einan's at Hillcrest - Pasco on May 21, 2024.
Sandra Marie Putnam (Wright), 73, of Pasco, passed away peacefully early the morning of Saturday May 18th with her daughter by her side. Sandy was born in Pasco Washinton on March 18, 1951, to Helen and Harold Wright. Growing up she enjoyed spending time with her siblings. One older brother, Doug and two younger sisters, Bonnie and Barbara. When she was a young girl, Sandy enjoyed roller skating in the neighborhood, playing jacks & hopscotch. Later, she had a passion for ballet and dance. She always told stories of how much she admired her wonderful dance instructor. Sandy was an animal lover from day one, something she passed on to her daughter and all three of her grandchildren. She had turtles and later dogs, even a couple of rats once (not her choice) all of whom were a special part of her family. Sandy enjoyed going on trips to Idaho with her family as a child. They stayed with family members and made many treasured memories. As an adult, she enjoyed trips to visit her brother in Utah every year. She helped teach her sisters how to drive, which was apparently a pretty fun adventure at times.
She attended Pasco High and was in the graduating class of 1969. While there, she got to dance in a talent show and she won a trophy. Sandy's mom Helen was her biggest fan and would always talk about how proud she was of her daughter's ability to dance.
In 1976, she had her only child, Trisha. Although the marriage didn't work out, she did an amazing job raising her daughter as a single mother. Thankfully, her family has always been very close and supportive. As a mother, Sandy was easy to talk to, very open and understanding. This is something her daughter highly respects about her to this day. Sandy was a mom who expected good behavior and would accept nothing less, but she put her young daughter first. As a mother, she was rarely able to say no to a request to stay up and watch the late show (especially if Jonny Carson had animals on as he often did) or just cuddle on the couch before falling asleep together in a little twin bed in the room they both shared. She would play in the sand box, read children's books for hours and color beautiful pictures. Later, she nannied for her sister Bonnie's family taking all the children including her own on frequent park trips, walks & swimming among other adventures. Sandy was an amazing cook and enjoyed complicated recipes that were a bit of a challenge to most. She also enjoyed long walks. Sometimes she would be gone for hours walking on the bike path by the river. When her daughter was young this would always end in a piggyback ride and a pocket full of agates and various rocks.
When her first grandchild was born, Sandy helped her daughter and son-in-law. She worked around their differing shift work schedules to provide care to her grandson for nearly two years. She was his third parent, and he knew it. Her grandchildren remember on her weekly visits, she would play hopscotch, jacks, color with them or go outside just about any time she was asked. She also taught her granddaughters how to knit which was quite a task.
Sandy was preceded in death by her parents, Helen and Harold Wright. She is survived by her daughter & son-in-law, Trisha and Rob Green, her grandchildren Robert, Katelynn and Georgia Green, her brother and sisters, Doug Wright, Bonnie Lanning and Barbara Condray and their families. In lieu of flowers please donate to the Pasco Animal Shelter.
