Sandra June Schlechter

1940 - 2023

Sandra was born January 15th, 1940 in Cambridge, England to Charles and Ethel Pain. She was raised in Birmingham, England where she graduated from Mosely College for girls, and Pitman's College for shorthand and typing. At the age of 16 she came to America with her parents where they settled in Salem, Oregon. She fell in love with Clarence Schlechter, and they were married January 14th, 1961 at St. Vincent's. She worked for Oregon Farm Bureau, State of Oregon, and Jenks White Seed Company. Clarence and Sandra lived in Salem for two years, before moving to the family farm in Gervais, Oregon. Even though she was a city girl, she loved farm life. Clarence and Sandra were also the proud owners of the Monitor Inn Tavern for 18 years in Monitor, Oregon.
She was always ready for a game of Cribbage, her favorite card game, which she taught all her grandchildren to play. She also loved to knit, do tapestry, play the organ, and the ukulele. She enjoyed many trips to Hawaii and Mexico. She belonged to Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Gervais and was a proud member of St. Rita's Alter Society and Catholic Daughters. By her example, she showed her faith in God.
Sandra and Clarence, have three children; Charles (Carolee), Antone (Theresa), and Victoria (Joseph). Six grandchildren; Courtney, Ashley, Nickolas, Colby, Cheyenne, Jacob, Adam and one great-granddaughter; August Grace. Sandra has a sister, Julie Pannell (Gerald), who lives in Salem, and many nieces, nephews, and dear friends around the world.
In lieu of flowers, contributions are to be made to Sacred Heart St. Rita's Altar Society, Sacred Heart Catholic Daughters, or Legacy Health Hospice.
