Sandra Kay Nowland Sinks
Sandra Kay Sinks, 81, passed away in
Dawsonville, GA on Thursday, February 26, 2026 with her loving family by her side.
Sandra was born July 19, 1944, in
Burbank, California to James and Ovena Angus Nowland. She was the oldest of 3 daughters. The family lived in many places over the years including California, Oregon, and
Burley, ID.
As a child in Idaho, Sandy grew up on their family farm where they harvested beans, corn, wheat and hay. She enjoyed learning piano and playing with her cousins and little sisters.
Sandy attended Burley High School, where she graduated as a member of the class of 1962. She was an active member of the pep club, Future Business Leaders of America, and enjoyed playing softball and performing in roadshows and dance festivals.
After graduation, Sandy moved to Utah where she attended the LDS Business College and worked at ZCMI. Upon receiving her associates degree Sandy found work at the Utah State Capital. Shortly afterwards she began her first semester at Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah.
It was at BYU, that first semester, where she met a handsome young man who swept her off her feet. She married Kenneth Sinks on August 5, 1966 in the Logan, Utah LDS temple. Ken and Sandy have five children…Wendy, Todd, Greg, Amy and Justin.
The family lived in several places through the years including Utah, California, Idaho, North Dakota, West Virginia, Texas, and New Mexico. In each place Sandy was able to create a beautiful and safe home for her family.
Sandy was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, serving in many church callings, including working and serving in the San Antonio, TX LDS temple with her sister Cheryl for several years.
Sandy had a strong testimony of her Savior, Jesus Christ. She exemplified him in many ways but was an incredible example of selfless service. She was well known for her love of serving those around her, helping with rides, meals, phone calls and visits to those who needed a friend.
After her dear Ken passed away, she moved to Texas and then Utah. It was in Utah where she made many dear friends in her retirement complex, where she made daily visits and played many games of Bingo.
Sandy was also well known for her love of sports! She enjoyed watching it all. She was an avid BYU fan, and especially enjoyed watching their football and basketball teams. Most of all however she loved attending her children's sporting activities, and in later years watching her grandchildren and even great-grandchildren in their many sports & activities.
Sandy and Ken together made it a priority to always show their love and support by being there for their loved one's milestone events. They attended every baby blessing, baptism, graduation, Mission Farewell and Homecoming, Wedding and baby shower they could, often traveling by plane to do so. There was no question that they loved their family.
Sandy was a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She has left a powerful legacy for the generations to come.
