Dr. Kimberly Utke Svanoe, `73
December 20, 2025
Miss Schjeldahl, as many of her earlier students knew her, was clearly a gifted musician and enthusiastic teacher, who "profoundly shaped music education in the region." As a BS in Music Education
graduate of the early 70´s, I was fortunate to study Elementary and Secondary Vocal Music Methods with her, and she was my student teaching supervisor. It is true how she "entered a room." Upon reading her most well-written obituary, one can feel proud to be associated with her record of influence. As a methods teacher myself and a supervisor of student teachers in Iowa for over thirty-five years, I was embodied with the best of what Minot State (Teachers) College had to impart,
as a rare NASM Music School in North Dakota at that time. Sandra Schjeldahl Starr was a most integral human part of MSU´s history.
God bless the memory of Sandra . With sympathies to her husband, Ken, and her daughter, Rebecca.
