NORTH LIMA – Sandra Sue Stevens, 82, passed away on Tuesday afternoon, October 28, 2025, at Assumption Village in North Lima, where she had been a resident.
Sandra was born on December 3, 1942, in Youngstown, a daughter of the late Simon C. and Dorothy Jean (Gilmore) Knight. A 1960 Springfield Local high school graduate, she was an executive secretary at Joe Dickey Electric and Sidley, Inc. She also was the head secretary at 4WD Hardware in Columbiana, where she created their first catalog. She spent much of her childhood in East Palestine, where her maternal grandparents lived. She was very close to her sister Carol, and they would enjoy playing with their many first cousins. Her creativity led her to painting and ceramics; the Penguin Parade at Youngstown State University was her idea and she was able to get many people involved in painting the penguins, which are still on display in various parts of Youngstown. She also loved to make birthday and wedding cakes for her family. Her collections included Emmett Kelly and Hummel figurines. Her family had a long history with the military; she was a past president of the American Legion Post 290 Auxiliary, in Columbiana. Sandra also was a member of the Tri-County 4 Wheeler Club. She enjoyed learning about her genealogy, visiting friends, and being with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She leaves to cherish her precious memory her three sons, Ronald Stevens of Washingtonville, Donald (Chris) Stevens of New Middletown, and John Stevens of Poland; three grandchildren, Dean (Megan) Stevens, Courtney (Ron Johnston) Stevens, and Ashley Stevens; five great-grandchildren Marek and Emma Stevens, Kylynn and Kayleigh Slepski, and Andrew Stevens; brothers Rodney (Marie) and Jeffrey (Patti) Knight; sister Audrey Terry; as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews.
Sandra was preceded in death by her parents and her sister Carol Ricketts.
Memorial services may be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations may be made in Sandra's memory to Making Kids Count, Project MKC, 6961 Southern Blvd., Suite A, Youngstown, OH 44512 (Donate – Project MKC), or American Legion Post 290, 44403 State Route 14, Columbiana, OH 44408.
