Sandra Ellen "Sandy" Thomas

Sandra "Sandy" Ellen Thomas, age 74, of Moravia, IA, passed away on Monday, February 23, 2026, at her home.

Sandy was born on May 11, 1951, to Roy and Marilyn (Exline) Davis. She grew up attending school and graduated from Centerville High School. She later attended Indian Hills Community College where she obtained her LPN (Licensed Practical Nurse) degree. On June 27, 1970, she was united in marriage to Charles Arthur Thomas. Sandy and Charlie later divorced.

In her younger years, Sandy worked at McClelland's Drug Store before dedicating her professional life to caring for others. She worked as an LPN at Centerville Specialty Care and MercyOne Long Term Care.

Sandy enjoyed watching the Game Show Network and taking trips to the casino to play the slot machines. She also enjoyed knitting and doing crossword puzzles. She loved Elvis and Betty Boop and collecting their memorabilia. Sandy was an excellent cook, known for her heavenly potato salad. Sandy was strong and hardworking and balanced her determination with both soft and hard love. She was selfless, loving, and generous to everyone she met. Above all else, Sandy loved her family and cherished the time spent with them.

Sandy is survived by 2 children, Justin (April) Thomas and Amanda Thomas; 6 grandchildren, Corwin, Michael, Brenda, and Sabrina Thomas, Emily Irving, and Christoper Thomas; and a sister, Linda Hadley. She is also survived by several nieces, nephews, cousins, and good friends.

Sandy is preceded in death by her parents, Roy and Marilyn Davis; a son, Todd; her partner-in-crime, Charlie Thomas; a sister, Diane Herr; a brother-in-law, Roger Hadley; and a dear friend, Berniece Latham.

Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 11, 2026, at the Tharp Funeral Home in Albia, with Sandy's family present to greet family and friends.

A Celebration of Life Funeral Service will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 11, 2026, at the Tharp Funeral Home in Albia. Burial will follow services at Mt. Ararat east of Centerville.

An open memorial has been established to the family.
