Sandrea 'Sandi' Hidi, 69, died in hospice care on March 14, 2026, after a brave struggle with vascular dementia. The baby of six kids, she was born on September 1, 1956, in the family home at 484 4th Avenue in Garwood, New Jersey, to Mary Yuhas Hidi and Joseph Hidi. Sandi worked in food service as a restaurant manager and chef, and later took over the Hidi's Store and Deli. She went back to college, earned a BS in Nutrition & Dietetics, and worked as a hospital nutritionist. She was proud of her Hungarian heritage, and her recipes for authentic dishes were published in the ethnic heritage cookbook Made in America. After the loss of her wife, Chris Ross, she moved to Jacksonville in 2018 to live near family. Sandi was an amazing cook and baker, enjoyed traveling, fishing, and watching Jeopardy! She loved her family and making and sharing food, always in search of 'the perfect bite'.
Sandi was preceded in death by her wife, Chris Ross, parents, Mary & Joseph Hidi, sisters Sylvia Eden and Malvina Sherman, and her brother, Joseph Hidi. She is survived by sisters June Hubit and Geraldine Leigh, and her nieces and nephews, whom she loved to spoil.
