Sandy Adair Gilley, a devoted husband, father, and grandad, was born on September 24, 1947, in Stamford, Texas. He was a lifelong resident of Stonewall County, where he built a legacy of love for his family, community, and the land he worked.
Sandy graduated from Aspermont High School in 1966, setting the stage for a life that would be marked by hard work, laughter, and cherished moments. His passion for farming and ranching was evident in the care he provided to his cattle, which he loved dearly. Sandy was an avid hunter and fisherman, known for his great “fish stories” that brought smiles to all who listened. He had a particular fondness for trapping and hunting rattlesnakes, activities that highlighted both his adventurous spirit and deep connection to nature. A competitive soul, Sandy loved gathering with family and friends to play dominoes, always ready for a competitive game of forty-two.
He was married to Vicki LaRue Abernathy on May 25, 1979, a union that brought him immense joy and pride. Together, they navigated life for 47 years.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Vicki; his son, Shane Gilley (Sharon); daughter, Dede Scifres; son, Jason Gilley (Misty); and daughter, Jennifer Graham. His legacy continues through his cherished grandchildren: Kenzie Gilchrist, Cash Gilley, Katelyn Flores (Lloyd), Colby Gilley, Blaynee Gambill (Dylan), Becken Gilley, Zoey Gilley, and Lexie Cooper. Sandy was also blessed with three great-grandchildren, Jace Gambill, Kash Gambill, and Elyse Flores; and his two dogs, Art and Ryder.
Sandy's vibrant personality shone through every interaction. He was known for his loving nature and his ability to make those around him laugh with his humor and storytelling. His best friend and hunting partner, Dave Smith, shared many of his adventures, creating memories that will be treasured.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Robert Ray and Addie Pearl (Adair) Gilley, and his sister, Linda Pack.
Sandy Adair Gilley leaves behind a legacy of hard work, love, and laughter that will resonate with all who had the privilege of knowing him. His commitment to his family and friends, along with his zest for life, will be fondly remembered as a cornerstone of his enduring spirit.
