San Juana “Mary Jane” Bocanegra, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, was born on November 30, 1950, in Meadow, Texas. She passed away peacefully at her home on December 18, 2025, surrounded by her loved ones, after a courageous and hard-fought battle with cancer.
Mary Jane was united in marriage to the love of her life, Cirildo Bocanegra, with whom she shared 59 years of marriage. Their union was the foundation of a strong, close-knit family built on love, faith, and unwavering support for one another.
She is lovingly survived by her husband, Cirildo Bocanegra; her children: Sam Bocanegra, Christina Orozco, Diana Mendiola, Juan Bocanegra, Jeanette Bocanegra, Jessica Bocanegra, and Jorge A. Aguirre; her sisters, Belia Gomez and Marie Purcell; and her many cherished grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Mary Jane was a proud grandmother to Johnathan Corely, Jacob Bocanegra, Alejandro Tafolla, Abraham Tafolla, Amanda Fabian, Alexandria Tafolla, Cassandra Ojeda, Stephanie Mendiola, Lisette Sosa, Yvette Sosa, Jullian Bocanegra, Jordan Bocanegra, Tristan Bocanegra, Spain Bocanegra, Edan Bocanegra, Braven Bocanegra, Carlos Bocanegra, Christian Bocanegra, Aryana Tafolla, Bella Lozano, Leah Lozano, Sophia Lozano, Aniyah Verdin, Anais Aguirre, and Cirildo Oz Aguirre. She was also blessed with 25 great-grandchildren, who brought her immense joy.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Angelita and Eduardo Castanuela; her beloved daughter, Jeanette Bocanegra; her grandsons, Jesus Cancino Jr. and Adan Tafolla; and three sisters and six brothers.
Mary Jane will be remembered for her strength, resilience, and the deep love she had for her family. She faced life’s challenges with grace and courage, fighting bravely until the end. Her home was always filled with warmth, laughter, and comfort. Though she will be deeply missed, her legacy of love will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
