Sara Clement Ward Broadwell

Sara Clement Ward Broadwell, age 86, of Calhoun Falls, S.C., passed away peacefully at her home in Greenwood, S.C., on April 5, 2025. She was the beloved wife of the late George Malcolm Broadwell and was born in Calhoun Falls to the late Aaron C. and Opal Clement Ward.

Mrs. Broadwell was a proud graduate of Richmond Academy High School in Augusta, GA, class of 1957, and later earned her Associate Degree from Lander University. She devoted 36 years of her life to the Abbeville Library System, serving as the founding director of the Calhoun Falls Library until her retirement. In recognition of her contributions, she received the Calhoun Falls Personality of the Year award.

An accomplished artist, avid reader, and passionate gardener, Mrs. Broadwell was an active member of several organizations, including the Abbeville Artist Guild, Greenwood Artist Guild, The Red Hatters, and the Calhoun Falls Garden Club. Her involvement in the community reflected her vibrant spirit and commitment to enriching the lives of those around her.

A longtime member of the Calhoun Falls Methodist Church, Mrs. Broadwell was known for her warmth and kindness, leaving a lasting impact on her family, friends, and community.

She is survived by her children, George Aaron Broadwell (Peter Marino) of Gainesville, Florida, and Alice Broadwell Lewis (Phil) of Greenwood, South Carolina; her granddaughter, Sara Elizabeth Rambo (Josh Boyer); and a great-granddaughter, Mary Alice Washins.

A private family interment will be in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens.

A service to Celebrate the life of Mrs. Broadwell will be 11:00AM on Wednesday, April 9, 2025 at the Harris Funeral Home, Calhoun Falls Chapel, 526 E. Savannah St. Calhoun Falls, SC 29628. A reception will follow the services.
