Durham, North Carolina - Sara Hubbard Fairey passed away on Tuesday, May 30, 2023 at her home in Myrtle Beach. She was 91 years old.
Sara was born in 1931 in Salisbury, N.C. to Henry Chatham Hubbard and Esta Pardue Hubbard and was the last survivor of 11 children. She moved to Durham in 1955 where she met and married Robert (Bob) L. Fairey of Durham in 1956. June 2nd would have been their 67th anniversary.
Surviving are her husband, Bob; son, Robert (Bo) L. Fairey Jr., and wife, Diane; son, Joel Fairey and wife, Elizabeth; grandchildren; Ivan and Isabel; sisters-in-law; Nancy Forbis and Jayne Hubbard; many nieces and nephews.
Sara was a loving and caring wife and mother with a unique ability to light up a room. Voted the wittiest Boyden High School senior, she was always ready for fun. She loved hosting a houseful on Christmas Eve, time on the beach with family, and attending Duke basketball games. Sara was a tremendous cook and was always there to bring meals to friends and neighbors in need. She will be greatly missed.
