Sara Elizabeth Hunt Hammond, a beloved resident of Calhoun, Georgia, passed away on September 18, 2024, at the age of 98. She lived a vibrant and fulfilling life, finding joy in each of her years.
Born on November 13, 1925, to William Paul Hunt and Josie Ann Smith, Sara grew up in a loving home alongside her seven siblings in Gordon County. She attended Red Bud High School, where she laid the foundation for a life dedicated to family and community. Sara married her husband, Walter. Sara raised four children: Jeffrey, Tracy, Walter, and Courtney. They were active members of the Red Bud and Sugar Valley communities, and Sara was a devoted member of the First Baptist Church in Calhoun. Her life was characterized by a spirit of service and kindness to all.
Sara was predeceased by her parents; William and Josie; her husband, Walter; her siblings Ralph, Sam, W.P., Idelle, Geneva, Maxine, and Lee, as well as two of her children, Jeffrey L. Hammond (married to SanJuana) and Courtney Hammond.
She is survived by: her sons, Tracy Hammond and Walter Paul Hammond (married to Angela); her grandchildren Natalie, Hunt, Walt, Lani, and Tracy; and her great-grandchildren Nelson, Gage, Jordan, Drew, Hartley, Brenlynn, Tilley, and Angus.
Family and friends are invited to a visitation on Friday, September 20, 2024, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Thomas Funeral Home. The funeral service will follow at 1 p.m. in the chapel, officiated by Rev. Wesley Hunt, with special music by Jamey Hunt and Madison Hunt on violin. Pallbearers will include Larry Stamey, Tracy Hammond, Wade Baldwin, Lani Hammond, Walt Hammond, Gage Hammond, Shane Hammond, and Nelson Gravitt. Sara will be laid to rest beside her beloved husband in Fain Cemetery.
