Sara was raised in the Bell Arthur community of Pitt County and graduated from Winterville High School. She lived much of her adult life in Maryland, where she worked as an instructional aide for special education in the public schools and also worked in real estate. In 1996, Sara and her late husband, Carl Anthony Hanson, Sr., retired to Bethel, where she has resided ever since. She was active in New Destiny Pentecostal Holiness Church for a number of years, where she enjoyed teaching Sunday School. Sara delighting in being around children, enjoyed country living and was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend.
In addition to her husband, Sara was preceded in death by her parents, James and Mildred Sutton; sons, William Terry Hanson and Michael David Hanson; and siblings, Diane, Bill, and Cherry.
She is survived by her son, Carl Anthony Hanson, Jr.; grandchildren, Carla Sue Hanson, Zachary Hanson, and Margaret Hanson; and siblings, Gene, Connie, George, Jerry, and Debbie.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a charity of one's choice.
