Sara Smith

1925 - 2023

Sara McElveen Smith, 97, of the Hebron Community, widow of the late Robert William Smith, went to be with the Lord on Monday, June 5, 2023, at her home.
Born on July 17, 1925, in Olanta, daughter of the late Ernest F. McElveen and Adell "Dell" Smith McElveen. She was a graduate of Olanta High School, worked & retired from Williamsburg County School System. Mrs. Sara was a member of Hebron United Methodist Church, where she was very active in the church & choir for over 76 years, and also served as treasurer for a number of years. She was a member of the VFW and was an avid Clemson Fan. Mrs. Sara loved & adored her children and grandchildren. She was affectionately known as "Grannie" or "Granny" to them.
Surviving are her daughter, Connie (Ryon) Hukill of Plano, TX; grandchildren, Ronald William "Smitty" (Jennifer) Smith, Jr. of Charleston, SC, Arthur R. "Artie" (Paula) Cressman of Flower Mound, TX, Jacqueline Cressman (Brian) Maynard of Little Elm, Texas, Michelle Horton (Nathan) Gall of Tampa, Florida, and Michael Lee (Allison) Horton, Jr. of Lynchburg, SC; 16 great grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild; brother, Donald E. (Emma) McElveen of Columbia; daughter-in-law, Patricia McMillan Chandler of Hebron Community.
Mrs. Sara was preceded in death by her parents; son, Ronald William Smith, Sr; daughter, Cheryl Smith Horton; granddaughter, Christy Horton; son-in-law, Mike Horton; siblings, Earl McElveen, Milton McElveen and Monte McElveen Gaymon.
The family would like to extend a special "Thank You" to Mrs. Sara's caregivers, Jane, Pam and Tina; Amedisys Home Health staff, Jimmy and Melissa H.; Terry & the staff at The Medicine Cabinet, for their love and care to our family during this time.
A Celebration of Life will be 2:00 PM, Saturday, June 17, 2023, at Hebron United Methodist Church, Cades, SC, with burial to follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends 1:00 – 2:00 PM in the fellowship hall at Hebron United Methodist Church.
