Sara Lynn Vansickle, age 77, passed away on Tuesday, April 16, at Spohn South Hospital after a brief illness.
Sara was born on June 10, 1946, in Menomonie, Wisconsin to Bert and Inez Rasmusson. After graduating from Menomonie High School, she attended Augsburg College in Minneapolis, MN before graduating from the University of Wisconsin - Stout with a degree in early childhood education.
Sara met her husband of nearly 50 years, Bill, in Menomonie, while attending the University of Wisconsin-Stout. As soon as she finished her degree, they were married and left the next morning for the long drive to Corpus Christi. She started her career as a third-grade teacher at Tuloso-Midway but spent the majority of her career teaching Head Start and Kindergarten. After more than 20 years in the classroom, she became the curriculum director for Sinton ISD until she formally retired.
Her love for children prompted her to return to work as the director of the Grace United Methodist Church Early Childhood Center. When Grace UMC moved to their new location, Sara returned to her first love as a kindergarten teacher at Arlington Heights Christian School.
Sara never missed an opportunity to spend time with her three children, Lisa, Chris, and Brad, and her granddaughter, Tressa. She attended numerous piano recitals, sporting events, band concerts, theatre productions, and livestock shows. She also assisted with Campfire Girls, Girl Scouts, and Boy Scouts events.
A devoted daughter, sister, mother, and grandmother, Sara is survived by her three children, Lisa (David) Silverman, Chris (Sally) Vansickle, and Brad (Liz) Vansickle; nine grandchildren Allison, Tressa, Robert, Daniella, Brandon, Jordan, Emily, Jacob and Samantha; four great-grandchildren, Theo, Owen, Cyrus, and Stella; and “adopted” son, Israel, and many friends. Sara was preceded in death by her husband, Bill Vansickle; parents Bert and Inez Rasmusson; and a brother, Jon Rasmusson.
A special thank you to all of the ICU nurses and doctors at Spohn South, especially Dr. Crocker and Dr. Allen, who took care of our mother with loving care during her last days.
Memorial Service will be held Saturday, June 1 at 11:00 a.m.
