Sara Jane Viars Risner

Sara Jane Viars Risner, 85, of Middlesboro, KY passed away on April 14, 2025 at Middlesboro ARH. She was born in Slemp, Perry County, KY on November 16, 1939, a daughter of the late William R. and Ida Thornsberry Viars. Sara was a social worker for over 38 years at the Pineville Social Service and she was a mother to many.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her siblings, Belva (Bo) Akers, Raymond Viars, June Viars, Herman Viars, Vick Viars and Harold (Sam) Viars.
Sara is survived by her children, Micah (Amy) Risner, Maranda (Don) Carver; grandchildren, Amanda (Brandon) Shortridge, Devin (Lauren) Carver, Tyler (Ana) Carver, Thomas Risner, Bethney Risner (Jon Mikel); great grandchildren, Camden, Colten, Savannah, Sophia, Parton, Lincoln, Ava and Jase: brothers, Kyle Viars and William Viars; sister, Phyllis; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Graveside services will be on Saturday at 12:30 PM at Green Hills Memorial Gardens, Middlesboro, KY with Rev. James Teaney and Rev. Jody Risner.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, April 19, 2025, from 10:00 AM until 12 :00 PM at the Arnett & Steele Funeral Home and Cremation Center.
