Sara Joanna Wright, a beloved member of the Guin community, passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 7, 2025 at her residence. Born into a large, loving family on February 17, 1925, in Guin, Alabama, she was the seventh of eight children born to Elizabeth Joanna Booker Wright and Robert Raymond Wright, Sr.

Sara Jo attended Marion County High School and graduated from the University of Alabama in 1947 with a degree in Education. During her college years, she was the president of Delta Zeta sorority, reflecting her leadership and dedication. She spent her entire life in Guin, making significant contributions to her community.

After graduating, Sara Jo taught at Marion County High School for eight years, before transitioning to the central office where she served as Superintendent of Curriculum for 31 years. Her influence on the educational landscape of Guin was profound and lasting.

Sara Jo's strong faith was evident in her commitment to teaching Sunday School to 11th and 12th grade girls at First Baptist Church. She was deeply involved in her church community, and her unwavering belief provided strength and guidance to many.

A passionate fan of Crimson Tide football, Sara Jo held season tickets for many years, sharing her love for the game with family and friends. Her cherished pet dachshund, Miss Bama, was a testament to her enthusiasm for Alabama football.

Sara Jo was known for her generosity and devotion to her family. Alongside her sister, Mary Frances, she taught her nieces and nephews how to drive, instilling confidence and independence in the younger generation. She was also the family photographer, capturing the joy of countless family gatherings on film.

She is predeceased by her sisters, Gladys May Wright Maddox, Virginia Nell Wright Green, and Mary Frances Wright, and her brothers, Robert Raymond Wright, Jr., William Haig Wright, Richard Earl Wright, Sr., and Hubert Harvey Wright.

Sara Jo's family would like to recognize the help and devotion of her caregivers and friends, Marie May, Loretta Nixon, and Darlene Perkins, and her previous caregiver and friend, Lisa Smith (deceased).
