Sarah Beckering Obituary

Sarah Jane Beckering
08/26/1942 - 10/08/2023
SARAH JANE BECKERING, 81, passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 8, 2023, in Houston, Texas. Born on August 26, 1942, in Dallas, Texas, she was the second daughter of Dr. Henry H. Beckering and Olive V. Beckering. Sarah is survived by her beloved sister, Rebecca A. Askew; her two nieces, Nancy A. Witmer and Susan E. Sanders; their husbands Rich J. Witmer and Mark A. Sanders; grandnieces Meghan E. Witmer, Rachel A. Witmer, and Taylor E. Sanders; and grandnephews Jack M. Witmer and Marshall A. Sanders, all of Houston. Sarah was preceded in death by her parents, as well as her brother-in-law, Dr. Hubert C. Askew, Jr.
Sarah grew up in Dallas and attended Highland Park High School. Sarah attended and graduated from Texas Christian University, where she was a lifelong Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority member alongside her older sister Becky. A world traveler with her parents, Sarah was able to experience many different cultures and countries in her lifetime. She enjoyed reading and recommending new books to her family. Sarah loved her time as a teacher in H.I.S.D. and was a long-time resident of Houston, Texas.
Sarah had a kind and generous spirit and would light up a room with her gracious laugh and wonderful smile. With such a small family, Sarah was a loving aunt to her nieces, she was always present and interested in their activities and lives. In turn, she likewise treasured her grandnieces and grandnephews.
Following a private family burial service at Memorial Oaks Cemetery, friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from noon until two o'clock on Saturday, the 21st of October, at Dettling Funeral Home, 14094 Memorial Dr, Houston, TX 77079.
