Sarah "Sally" de Mets

Sarah "Sally" Kauffman de Mets, of Chalfont, PA passed away peacefully on October 30, 2025.

Sally was born in Abington on New Year's Day, 1942 to parents Dr. Martin Luther Kauffman and Jane Ann (Pratt) Kauffman. She grew up in Jenkintown, PA where she met the love of her life, Lee de Mets. Inseparable in life, they were married for 61 years and parted only by Lee's passing in December 2024.

Sally graduated from Boston's Wheelock College in 1963 with a Bachelor's of Science in Early Childhood Education. She taught at several schools during her career including Angel Oak Primary School in Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina and Tiny Tots Nursery School in Buckingham, PA. In the final years before retirement she was a civilian employee of Willow Grove's Naval Air Station where she was a Child Development Training and Curriculum Specialist at the base's MWR Child Development Center.

Music was at the center of Sally and Lee's life together. An accomplished oboist and soprano soloist she performed with the orchestra at Willow Grove Park and the Old York Road Symphony in the 1960's and sang in the choir at the many churches where Lee was the Director of Music including Salem United Church of Christ, Doylestown; United Methodist Church, Chalfont and St. Jude's Catholic Church, Chalfont.

Sally is survived by son Charlie de Mets of Abington; son and daughter-in-law Peter and Kelly Ryman de Mets of Newtown; grandchildren Joshua de Mets of Buckingham, Jason de Mets of Abington, Alister de Mets of Newtown and Tommy de Mets of Chalfont; sister Jean McChesney of Colorado Springs, CO; brother and sister-in-law David and Stephanie Kauffman of Albuquerque, NM; and family members Michelle and Gary Block of Chalfont; Bonnie and Jason Gallagher of Abington; Dorothy and Tom Deaton of Sante Fe, NM; Kevin and Tracey McChesney of Colorado Springs, CO; Daryl and Pat McChesney of Milford, CT and Susan Espenshade of Mount Holly, NJ.

Sally and Lee were also foster parents to over a dozen children.

Visitation will take place at Ascension Lutheran Church, 900 Washington Crossing Road, Newtown, PA at 3 pm on Sunday, December 14, 2025, followed by a celebration of her life beginning at 4 pm.
