She was born in Marion, Kentucky, on September 13, 1939, to Lorene and Tom Walker. Sarah spent most of her life in Lafayette County and Independence, Missouri. There, she built a home grounded in love, faith, and devotion to family.
Sarah was a devoted wife to her husband, Hugh, for 69 years. She was the proud mother of three daughters Linda Lindsay, Donna (Dave) Snider, and Julie (Mike) Roepke, whom she never stopped supporting, advising, and blessing with her love. She was a cherished grandmother to seven — Jeremy, Joshua, Sandra, Sarah, Matthew, Chloe, and Ian — whose visits and phone calls always brought her immense joy. The family was further blessed with ten great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her sister, Darline Dillman, and her brother, Donald Walker. She is survived by her “boys,” her younger brothers Jerry and Melvin (Kathy) Schroeder, and Chuck Mitzel.
Sarah was the family’s financial planner, event organizer, and chef — always putting others before herself. She was unwavering in her faith and a devoted member of Noland Road Baptist Church. She was also a proud member of the American Legion Tirey J. Ford Post 21 Auxiliary for 52 years, serving in many positions, including President.
Sarah will be deeply missed by all who knew her and forever remembered for her generous heart and the love she poured into her family.
