Death Notice

Sarah Kathleen Sweeney

1984 - 2024

Dr. Sarah Kathleen Sweeney, 39, passed away on January, 13, 2024. Sarah was born in Huntington, WV on November 2, 1984 to Stephen and Teresa Sweeney. She graduated from East Forsyth High School in 2003, and then went on to attend North Carolina State University. In 2007, she graduated from NC State with degrees in Microbiology and Biological Sciences. She received a minor in Biochemistry. Sarah was a member of Delta Zeta Sorority during her time at NC State.
After receiving her degrees, Sarah went on to attend Barry University School of Podiatric Medicine and Surgery in Miami Shores, FL. In April of 2012, she received her Doctor of Podiatric Medicine degree and then completed her surgical residency at several hospitals in the Miami area. Afterwards, Sarah moved to Port Arthur, TX where she practiced medicine for several years before moving to Saint Louis, Missouri. She had recently opened up her own podiatry practice in Creve Coeur, Missouri.
Sarah was a vibrant and outgoing person who never, ever met a stranger. She loved dogs and cats, and she rescued and owned several over the years. She was an excellent pianist and a talented artist. She loved purses, fashion, and jewelry. Sarah was diagnosed with Perthes Disease when she was 6 years old, which caused her to experience much physical pain throughout her life. When Sarah was 11 years old she made a Christian profession of faith and was baptized. She trusted in the Lord's path for her life and to help her with handling the physical limitations the Perthes caused. She was an example of how hard work, faith in God, and perseverance can overcome obstacles. She had a lot of struggles in her short life, but we have the glorious hope that she is pain free and happy in heaven with her Daddy.
Sarah was preceded in death by her beloved father, Stephen Sweeney; her favorite uncle, Michael Sweeney; grandmother, Norma Sexton; grandfather, Dr. Richard Sexton; and her "Poppy", Ray Harper. She is survived by her mother, Teresa Sweeney Light; her brother, Benjamin Sweeney; stepfather, Charles Light; grandmother Lois Harper; cousins, Brandon Cleek, Shannon Braucher, and Dr. Adam Sweeney; and her aunts, Brenda Sweeney and Linda Harper.
