Sarah Thompson Obituary

"People will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel." This quote best describes the legacy of Sarah Elizabeth Hallman Thompson, who transitioned to be with God, on September 8, 2022. She was 99 years young. Sister Sarah was born in Beallsville, MD, on April 24, 1923, to the late John Hallman, and the late Florence Hallman. She relocated to Frederick, MD, where she met and married the love of her life,

George W. Thompson. This union produced eight children. Sister Sarah held various jobs in Frederick, but she is most noted for her work in Hood College's food service, where she was employed for many years. She supervised the dining facility and later supervised the dormitory area. She also served as a nursing assistance at the Odd Fellows Nursing Home in Frederick for a period of time. She was so well liked at the facility that the residents often referred to her as the Doctor.

Though her recent illness caused her to relocate to Virginia to reside with her daughter Gwen and son in law Frank, she continued her membership at Quinn. While residing in Virginia she attended local churches which included New Deliverance Evangelistic Church, Better Covenant, and Victory Tabernacle.

First and foremost, Sister Sarah truly loved the Lord. She served in many capacities at her home church, Quinn Chapel, including the Ruth S. Brooks Scholarship Committee, Trustee Board, Stewardess Board, Missionary Society, Eveready Club and Sunday School Teacher. She worked as office assistant in the church office. She was also president of the Senior Usher Board, where she "schooled" many recruits in the rudiments of ushering. She was famous for her "strut" as she led the choirs down the aisle. She also made sure her children attended church and Sunday School and served on various committees and choirs.

Left to honor her memory are her children Freda Brown (Harold), Gwen

Robinson, (Frank), Glen Thompson and Anthony Thompson, daughter-in-law, Barbara; her siblings Lawrence Hallman, Joseph Hallman, Nancy Onley and Rosie Inabinett grandchildren; Larry Thompson Jr, (Suanne) Chanda Thompson, Brian Thompson (Amy), Kamilah Moran (Frank), Taikei Thompson, Tariq Thompson and bonus grands, Ryan Bowie and Rahsaan Bowie; a host of great grandchildren (17) and one great- great grandchild. She also leaves many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Fondly known as Mama Sarah, she will be especially remembered by her

Quinn Chapel church family, including longtime friend, Lola Williams, and her Pastor Luke J Robinson. Sister Sarah touched and influenced many lives during her walk here on earth and those lives are better people for having known her.

Besides her parents, Sister Sarah is now reunited with her husband, George W. Thompson, Sr., children; George Thompson Jr. Kenneth Thompson, Ronald Thompson and Larry Thompson (Barbara), Siblings; James Barnes, Charles Hallman, Theodore Hallman, Leroy Hallman, John Hallman, Robert Hallman and Dorothy Hallman.

She exemplified Jesus through her unconditional love. She was an encourager and supporter as she took on the role of mother for many. She will truly be missed, but now she has taken on an even greater calling, to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Celebration services will be held Thursday September 22, 2022, at Victory Tabernacle, 11700 Genito Road, Midlothian, VA 23112 5-7 pm. and on Saturday, September 24, 2022 at Jackson United Methodist Church, 5609 Ballenger Creek Pike Road, Frederick, MD. Viewing is from 1-2 pm and the Celebration of Life service is at 2 pm.

Interment will be on Tuesday, September 27 at Amelia Veterans

Cemetery in Amelia, Virginia beginning at 12 pm.

Services entrusted to Hawkes Funeral Home Amelia, Virginia.

My heart was sad when I heard about Ms. Sarah's passing. She was a beautiful soul, always had a smile on her face and a kind word. She would tell me stories about living uptown when she and my mom were young and raising their children. I will keep those memories in my heart for ever. I'm she and mom swapping stories in heaven. The best mother in all the world is now in heaven. Mom, you will be missed very much. Throughout your life, you have given an abundance of love and support for the family and others in your circle. I will never forget the wisdom, love, and guidance you provided to me and my siblings. A devoted christian who ensured all family members, (my sisters & brothers) were involved with Church Sunday School and Church Services starting at a young age. Heaven has gained another angel. This tribute to you comes with all my love and blessings. Mom, may you rest in heavenly peace...your son Glen.

To The Family: There just aren't any words that can convey my heartfelt sympathy for you on the passing of Mom Sarah. She was our church mom, our choir mom, and our biggest cheerleader in life. I was so very blessed to have had her on the parts of my journey. She has left me with so many life lessons, and cherished memories of her infectious smile.
