Saul Zaentz

Saul Zaentz is to be very much admired. He accomplished many success stories throughout his life. In doing so, he set a fine example for anyone with exceptional vision and a strong desire to accomplish his dreams. My heartfelt condolences to the loved ones left behind and hope that you find the promise of endless life free of sickness and death appealing to you.

It was only Sunday night, March 3, 2014, during the Academy Awards' obituary sequence, that I learned of Saul's death. Sad news indeed. I remember Saul as a wonderful human being, creative, clearminded, a real gentleman, who gave us amazing cinematic art while remaining independent of the "established" way of doing things--a maverick in the best sense of the word. And the world of music owes him a great debt for the catalog of great recordings which he and his partner Ralph Kaffel put together and maintained with integrity over so many years. The last time I met Saul I told him I was "retiring". He scowled at me and growled "Retirement?!??" It was a dirty word to him. I hastened to reassure him that I spoke the word with quote marks around it, and that I was going to accept my Social Security $ and go do theater. His face softened and he said "Okay. That's all right." Damn, how I miss him! Rest in Peace, Saul.

I treasure the memory and the great picture I have from the day I met Mr. Zaentz. I offer my sincere condolences to the Zaentz family and to his close friends at the Saul Zaentz Company.

I was very saddened to read of the passing of Saul (Porky) Zaentz. I had the pleasure of knowing him threw my association with my boy friend, Seymour Tamler, who grew up with Saul in Passaic NJ who was the first of the neighbor-hood boys from Myrtle and Monroe street to pass away back in 1978. After Saul won the Oscar for Cookoo's Nest, he had a big party, back in Passaic for only the men and al the women, including Gladys Leiberman was very upset that we, the women were not included in the celebration. RIP dear Porky and say hello to Seymour (Sy) and all the others when you arrive upstairs...
