Savator Hydessa Selden Lowry

October 30, 1924 - April 23, 2025

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Savator Hydessa Selden Lowry, who departed from this world on Wednesday, April 23, 2025, at the age of 100. Born on October 30, 1924, in Bedford, Virginia, to the late Lillian and Elston Selden, the third of nine children. Savator was predeceased by brothers Wiley Selden (Inez), Wellington Selden (Peggy) and Raymond Seldon (Vivian), and sisters Francis Woods (Garrison), Mattie Greene (Ivan) and Mary Will McDuffie; brothers-in-law Melvin Hunter and Eugene Medlock.

Savator attended Bedford Training School and began working at the early age of 16 for Dr. George Pogue setting the stage for her commitment to her community. She later began working for McCormick where she retired after more than twenty years. Savator met and married the love of her life, the late Harry Jerome Lowry, and lived in marital bliss for fifty years until his passing in 1998.

Savator joined Washington Street Baptist Church and accepted Christ at a very early age.

Savator is survived by two sisters, Anne Hunter and Marionette Medlock who will deeply miss and cherish her memory. Her dedicated and loving nieces, nephews, godchildren and special friends who will miss her delicious cooking, kind heart, and warm spirit.

A funeral service will be held at 12 p.m., on Saturday, May 3, 2025 at Washington Street Baptist Church, Bedford. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Friends are welcome to view from 3 to, 5 p.m. on Friday, May 2, 2025 in the Bedford Funeral Home Chapel. Arrangements by Bedford Funeral Home.
