Sawyer James Schreiner, age 23 of Athens, passed away surrounded by his family following a farming accident. He was born August 29th, 2002, in Marshfield, son of James and Tamara (Nowicki) Schreiner.
On June 21, 2025, he married his high school sweetheart Kellie Annala at Saint Anthony Catholic Church, Athens. Together they shared four incredibly beautiful months of marriage. He had a very strong work ethic, working at S.D. Ellenbecker full time while also having his own beef farm. He was happiest driving tractor, with his wife and their dog, Buddy riding alongside him. He enjoyed spending time in the woods hunting with his family and friends. Sawyer was also an active member of Saint Anthony Catholic Church, serving as an usher for multiple years. His faith was one of his strongest characteristics, he always said from a young age that he knew he was going to heaven.
Survivors include his wife Kellie Schreiner, parents James and Tamara Schreiner, sister Abigail (Andrew) Schmollinger, nieces Violet and Lilliana Schmollinger, grandparents Edward and Mary Nowicki, grandmother Dolly Schreiner, father and mother-in-law Marty and Shannon Annala, brothers-in-law Zachary and Jakob Annala, and many precious uncles, aunts, cousins, and friends.
Sawyer was preceded in death by his grandparents Clarence and Nancy Schreiner.
The funeral Mass will be celebrated 11:00 a.m. Saturday, October 25, 2025, at St. Anthony Catholic Church, Athens. Rev. George Graham will preside with Rev. David Nowicki concelebrating. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. Visitation will be Friday, October 24, 2025, from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. and again on Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service all at St. Anthony Catholic Church, Athens.
The family would like to thank his nurses Kayli and Luke at Aspirus Wausau Hospital for their loving care and all those who assisted at the scene of the accident Saturday afternoon.
