Scarlett Sipes, a beloved daughter, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully at her home in
Bolivar, Tennessee, on November 13, 2025. Born on November 4, 1955, in Brint's Hospital in Bolivar, Scarlett lived a life filled with love, kindness, and unwavering dedication to her family and community.
For 40 years, Scarlett devoted her career to the world of banking, where she worked as a loan processor for the Bank of Bolivar and what is now CB&S Bank, retiring in 2024. Her warmth and compassion were evident in every interaction; she genuinely loved everyone she encountered and never missed an opportunity to lend a helping hand. Before her long tenure in banking, she briefly explored roles at Proctor and Gamble, State Farm, Spectrum, owned and operated Three Way Grocery, and worked under the guidance of John Waddell.
Scarlett's greatest joys in life were her family. She cherished the time spent with Lloyd, the love of her life, and was a proud mother to her daughter, Tara, and a doting grandmother to Ally. Together with Lloyd, she created countless memories, especially during their motorcycle adventures in their earlier years. Family trips with Tara and Ally brought her immense happiness, memories crafted like treasures that will forever be held dear.
In addition to her family, Scarlett found joy in the simple pleasures of life. She adored spending time outdoors, planting colorful flowers, and delving into the pages of a good book. Her faith was also a significant part of her life; she found comfort and community in her Sunday School Class at Hornsby Baptist Church, where she attended. Even during her illness, they made sure she could stay connected, broadcasting services live so she could listen from the comfort of her home. Scarlett was a member of Walnut Grove Baptist Church.
Scarlett leaves behind a legacy filled with love and compassion. She is survived by her cherished companion, Lloyd Sipes of Bolivar; her beloved daughter, Tara Sipes of Jackson; her stepson, David Sipes (Sheila) of Toone; and her beloved granddaughter, Ally Sipes. She is also survived by her loving sisters, Amber Moore and Ricky, and Lily Barnes and Greg, all of Hornsby; her brother, David "Skeeter" Dorris and Sherry of Hornsby; and a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews who will remember her with fondness. Her best friend, Betty Lax, was a constant source of support and love in Scarlett's life.
Scarlett was preceded in death by her father, Guy P. Dorris, Sr.; her mother, Bobbie Jean Bishop Dorris; her brother, Guy P. Dorris, Jr.; and her stepson, Christopher Sipes.
Her life will be commemorated with visitations at Shackelford Funeral Directors in Bolivar on November 15 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM and November 16 from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM. A funeral service will follow on November 16 at 2:00 PM, leading to her interment at Wyatt Cemetery in Hornsby.
As we bid farewell to Scarlett, let us carry forward her spirit of kindness, love, and unwavering support for one another. She will be deeply missed, forever cherished in the hearts of those who loved her. Memorial contributions in her name may be sent to LeBonheur Children's Medical Center or Hornsby Baptist Church for the Community Building Fund.
