Scharlene Akers Obituary
She was born on Aug. 30, 1943, near Plymouth, to Charles and Grace VanBrooker DuBois. She was united in marriage to William J. "Bill" Akers on Sept. 16, 1961, in Plymouth. He preceded her in death on Jan. 27, 2007.
Cooki was a graduate of Plymouth High School. She worked as a school bus driver for many years and also drove over the road with her husband Bill for Gully Transportation. Upon her retirement she enjoyed transporting the Amish community and considered herself as an Amish Uber! She was active with the Plymouth Old Settlers over the years and served as a volunteer EMT for the Tri-Village Ambulance service for many years.
She is survived by her three children, Larry (Penny) Akers of West Point, Brenda (Kurt) Neff of Carthage and Lynda (Eric) Kruzan Icenogle of Blandinsville; 14 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, Butch DuBois, and a sister, Virginia Potter.
Cremation has been accorded. A gathering of family and friends will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday Oct. 18, at the Plymouth Circle Community Center (former Plymouth Methodist Church) in Plymouth. Private burial will be held in Rosemont Cemetery in Plymouth. Memorial contributions may be made to the Plymouth Old Settlers.
The Hamilton Funeral Home in Augusta is handling arrangements.

Another dear cousin gone. If Cooki loved you, she was your dear friend for life. She was straightforward and loving. We shared so much and our families are intertwined forever. I am saddened, unbelieving, and trying to understand all of this. She was a good, genuine soul. May our loving memories help us as we weave this into life´s journey. Another very special precious cousin is taken from us. May God hold us in his hand.
